The new CzechoSlovak Radio Hour is an off-shoot of the long-running radio program heard Sunday Mornings from 9am-10am on WCEV, 1450 AM in Chicago.
As of April 2015, new hosts were engaged, and a new format initiated. In October 2015, the 130 year old Czech heritage organization The Bohemian National Cemetery of Braidwood Ltd. (a 501.c.13) took over the reins as producer and presenter of the broadcast.
The mission of the new show is to both preserve and stimulate interest in Czech Heritage, while positioning itself as a hub of information for all aspects of the CzechoSlovak-American Community.
The communications tools have grown considerably in recent years, and The CzechoSlovak Radio Hour’s goal is to rapidly expand its reach and position itself as a fully developed national social media platform.
Our current broadcast schedule consists of not only the 9am WCEV 1450 AM Chicago terrestrial radio broadcast, but we also post the shows on our website and advertise them through Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, making the show available anytime, anywhere.
The program is pre-recorded on a weekly basis, co-hosted by CzechAmerican music producer Ed Vodicka and bi-lingual Czech-born Vlasta Kucerova. It features a rich mix of talk (in both English and Czech), music (ranging from current and classic Czech Pop to timeless folk music) and intriguing interviews with artists, politicians, newsmakers and others on the Czech-American and American-Czech scene.
As an outgrowth of our web-based expansion plan, we will be including regular programming from the national Czech Tourism office as well as the Czech Cultural Centers, the Sokol Organization, the Czech Consulates, United Moravian Societies, T.G. Masaryk School…and others.
The long term goal of the CzechoSlovak Radio Hour is to create the definitive “go-to” resource for anyone, anywhere with an interest in Czech, Slovak and American cultural exchange, as well as to ultimately provide a type of endowment for the ongoing maintenance, care and upkeep of the Bohemian National Cemetery of Braidwood as an historic and cultural site.
